Chocolate Heart Cake


By now, you can probably tell with fair certainty that our family likes ONE type of cake – Death by Chocolate. This one is a variation of it… While the layers are super-moist chocolate awesomeness, and it is covered in chocolate shavings, the filling I experimented with was ala Tiramisu. It is made of  mascarpone, creamed with powered sugar, flavored very generously with Kahlua – should I say drowned in it? :-), and smooth-textured with whipped heavy cream… I have to say, I’m torn between the Chambord ganache and the Kahlua mascarpone…  And… the sad truth is that I didn’t want to spoil the taste of it with fondant – thus the questionable presentation…

Note: While back-dated to September – when the cake was made – this post was actually written in November, after I decided to offload into cyberspace my newly-discovered obsession with cakes…
